On Daily Kos the debate over this senate bill has reached a fever pitch in the past few weeks ever since the Public Option was removed.
I feel that it must be passed, and I feel that we need this reform.
In the past week we've heard back and forth on this issue. But I have some very simple questions for those who have decided to say no.
Who said a bill ever had to be perfect to allow it to be passed? Certainly there are many bills that have been passed in the history of our country that were later fixed significantly.
What gain do we get from failing to pass this healthcare bill? Leadership from the President on what he wants in the bill has been noticeably absent. Does anyone truly think once we've lost a built, somehow we will gain more clout in order to pass a more progressive health agenda. If anything we would lose much power.
This vote needed to be done. It had to be done, the only outcome from failure would be a failure of the Democratic party.
Yes we need Real Healthcare Reform. And we will get it.
But as progressives we need to accept that it might take progressive movement to reach that goal.
Today is a big step, the first step taken in nearly 50 years of politics.
Trust me in the future we shall create a Public Option. In the future we shall extend Medicare to all.
But for now we must do what will is possible now. What will help working families now.
That's why I say again and again, "YES!" to the bill placed before the Senate this evening.
